Count Your
Blessing...they can be snatched away in an instant.
When a child You Love is Sexually Abused the
best way for you and the survivor to make it through this process is to view it
as a mutual journey. You may be picking up this book because you want to
understand the impact that sexual abuse can have on a family - this is our
story. As a parent, you will be asked to endure many things but to do that, you
need to take the time to shift your focus from the survivor and the survivor's
problems to yourself - your needs, your feelings, your history, the places you
can grow.
Hopefully within my story, you will find
validation for your feelings. I hope my words will inspire you and reassure you
that you're not alone in this struggle. I hope it helps you eventually come to
some resolution - to make peace with your past and move on. The only necessity
as far as healing is concerned is forgiving yourself... a parent can not be
every where at all times. This process need not be hurried. It is appropriate and
courageous to fight back in any way you choose. There will eventually come a
time when what you feel about the abuser and the destruction they have caused
in your life will become less important than what you feel about yourself, your
current life and yours and your child's future. Eventually, you will be able to
say "My child and I are my primary concerns. Whether the abuser rots or
not is not my problem. I 'm going on with my life."
Shattered Reality not only is my story but
shares my 14 year olds perspective of the abuse she endured for 3 years. It is her story of healing as well and is a
testament to the strength and courage of the human spirit. In the end, I hope it gives hope to all who
read it, that they can move forward after a traumatic experience and rewrite
life's script.
I hope you enjoy the
