A Mother's Poem
Innocent Triggers I saw a baby girl today All in pink - there she lay I could not breathe or even speak Tears rolled quickly down my cheek I ran away out through the door I could hide the pain no more My world was spinning round and round My world was turning upside down The tears dropped down and made a stain But could not take away the pain My mind went places I've tried to hide But now no longer kept inside All the things we've done and said To keep our girl safe from dread Just didn't matter on those days He chose to take her innocence away His selfish reasons I can't understand He chose to take her trusting hand And betray her over and over again Till the world she knew came to an end I used to think my arms were wide And kept her protected and safe inside I'd hold her and love her and build a wall That no evil could reach even 10 feet tall But no one knew the cracks of trust Could make the wall turn to dust She's a beautiful, loving and caring girl It's just not fair what he did to her The nightmares are sad and so are the fears They bring her and I to terrible tears All I hear is her sad plea - "Mommy, please don't leave me" I didn't know then but I'm here now We'll help her through this pain somehow We'll love her and nurture her and in the end Her soul and spirit will be strong again Written by Julie Morrison
